The Bright Futures Scholarship program, enabled by the government-run Florida Lottery, provides an opportunity for all high school seniors with extraordinary academic virtues to enroll into any public University/college in Florida with a scholarship. The requirements for eligibility have been slightly changed recently, which means that all interested high school students must obtain renewed information.
The Bright Future Scholarship program is based on merit, and all residents of Florida attending career schools, universities and colleges have an opportunity to apply for it.
Bright Futures Scholarship program – general requirements for eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Bright Futures Scholarship requirements, the students need to apply for the program during their senior high school year, before they graduate. If that deadline is missed, the student will forfeit all eligibility for Florida Bright Futures application in future.
The Bright Futures Scholarships requirements include being a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen, as well as a Florida resident. The requirements were recently altered, and the new terms of qualification include completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Since the Florida Bright Futures scholarship is based on merit, the FAFSA application doesn’t have to indicate a necessity for scholarship, but it has to be completed and free of errors.
Academic requirements for Bright Future Scholarships
The academic requirements for the Bright Futures Scholarships program are being altered according to the year of application, and they depend on the type of award the student is applying for (whether it is the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award, Florida Medallion Scholars Award or Florida Academic Scholars Award).
The requirements for application include scores on ACT or SAT exams, community service, required academic courses and a GPA requirement. If the student is a National Hispanic Scholar, a National Merit or Achievement Scholar and Finalist, he/she may enter the program according to the additional ways of qualification.
The scholarship program is renewable.
